Ford Versailles et Royale: l'alliance ratée de VW et Ford au Brésil
La Ford Versailles (2 portes, 4 portes) et son dérivé Royale (3 portes et 5 portes) sont sans doute les voitures qui, de l’histoire, portent le plus mal leur nom. Pour n’importe qui, ces noms, que ce soit Royale ou Versailles, portent en eux une certaine idée de grandeur, de puissance, de beauté, de luxe, de pouvoir, et d’absolu. Il suffisait pourtant de regarder la Versailles pour s’apercevoir qu’on était plus proche de Louis XVI montant à l’échafaud que de Louis XIV en roi Soleil ! Pensez-donc, une bagnole lancée en 1991 au Brésil sur la base d’une voiture lancée dix ans plus tôt en Europe, simple rebadging d’une Volkswagen Santana (Passat B2 pour nous) elle aussi présente sur le marché : ça donne une idée de la splendeur de la voiture !
