First presented in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type was immediately hailed as "the most beautiful car in the world" thanks to its avant-garde design by Malcolm Sayer. The arrival of the 4.2-litre engine in October 1964 marked a significant evolution of the Series 1, significantly improving torque and offering greater driving pleasure. The 4,235cc XK in-line six-cylinder engine, fed by three SU carburettors, retained its 265bhp output but offered much more powerful acceleration. In addition, the 4.2 L models benefited from a new fully synchronised four-speed manual gearbox, resolving a weak point in the 3.8 L version.
