History

The Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 was launched in March 1984, a year after the 205 saloon, and was designed to rival the Volkswagen Golf GTi. It was powered by a 1,580cc engine that initially produced 105bhp, then increased to 115bhp in 1986, offering an excellent power-to-weight ratio. Thanks to its lightness and dynamic handling, it quickly became a benchmark in the popular small sports car category. Its success helped to improve Peugeot's image. Production of the 205 GTi ended in 1994.
