History
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1949, the Porsche 356 Pre-A marks the birth of the Porsche legend. This example is one of only 343 convertibles with a full steel body built by Reutter for the 1954 model year.
🇺🇸 Rolled off the production line on 1 February 1954, this 356 was delivered new by the importer Hoffman in New York. It spent much of its life under the Californian sun (registered as 3EWJ494) before being imported into France in March 2003.
🇫🇷 The current owner acquired it in 2016 to undertake a full restoration project carried out by the specialist Classic Parts France (150,000 euros).
📄 This example bears chassis number #60400 with engine number #P-33732 and gearbox number #2939. The car has matching numbers and is still in its original “Erdbeerrot” paintwork, an extremely rare colour. This 356 comes with a comprehensive file containing invoices, the complete restoration dossier, as well as certificates of provenance from Porsche and Reutter…

🚘 The car has been fully restored to its original colour scheme: ‘Erdbeerrot’ red, with a black soft top over beige leather. The bodywork was stripped back to bare metal. The work included a soda-blasting treatment, the complete replacement of the floor panels, centre tunnel and side members, and repainting. The paintwork is of exemplary depth. A full restoration file is available.
The interior has been completely refitted to the original specifications with high-quality beige leather, a black soft top and a beige soft top cover.
🔧 The engine block (#P-33732) and gearbox (#2939) are in very good working order. The engine, gearbox and rear axle were fully overhauled during the restoration. The car’s road holding is impeccable.
