History
This Rolls Royce Silver Cloud I - chassis SDD 172 - was delivered new from the factory on February 21, 1957 to dealer J.Olding & Co in London for sale to its 1st owner, Broadmead Wireless Co in left-hand drive. A special order, the car was sent directly to Los Angeles to become the property of a film production company in Beverly Hills, where it spent some ten years.
The car's history is relatively discreet until September 1966, when SDD 172 returns to the UK, in the hands of Electrical & General Development. Novelist James Hadley Chase chose the car for the cover of one of his 1977 novels ("I hold the four aces"), and the car took part in a number of local concours d'élégance before being sold to its 3rd owner.
Arriving in Monaco in 1991, the car underwent a total restoration: engine, gearbox, complete mechanics, brakes and interior. It was purchased in March 2003 by the current owner, who has maintained it with great care ever since, taking advantage of the opportunity to have a complete repainting (in Cardinal Red) carried out by a specialist coachbuilder in 2006, followed by replacement of the soft top, new upholstery and restoration of all the interior woodwork. Since then, the car has been in superb overall condition and requires no maintenance, the radiator and entire cooling system having recently been replaced.
SDD 172 has taken part in numerous events in the UK and France. It is well known in the Rolls-Royce community and clubs.
