FRANCE - Perpignan (66)
Our example was delivered in France to its first owner in 1970 in Haute-Savoie. It was thus one of the first SMs to leave the factory.
First owner: 1970 - 1987 in Haute-Savoie.
Second owner: 1987 - 1989 in Nogent.
Third owner: 1989 - 1994 in Gironde.
Fourth and current owner since 1994 in Pyrénées Orientales.
Nearly 19,000 euros worth of mechanical work was carried out in 2020. The car was made fully reliable by Atelier Amédée, an SM specialist. Many parts were also supplied by the SM Club de France.
Condition
Exterior: The bodywork, in its Bleu Platine (AC632) hue, is true to its origin, offering a very attractive aesthetic appearance. The paintwork is bright and the chromes present themselves very well. We note, however, slight scratches on the left rear fender and bumper. The headlamps and windows are in excellent condition.
Interior: The black leather upholstery is in excellent condition. The seats are comfortable and have no holes or tears. Carpets and door trim look good, and the headliner is in good condition. All on-board instrumentation is functional.
Mechanics: The car is in perfect working order and has been fully reliable. The engine has been fully restored and made reliable. The timing chain has been changed. The carburetors have been refurbished, and the usual operations have also been carried out: change of shaft and connecting rod bearings, change of piston rings, adjustment of valve clearances. The clutch and clutch mechanism are new. On the gearbox, gears are well guided and do not creak. Braking and suspension components are good. At the same time, a stainless steel exhaust system has been installed to improve engine sound.
Underpinnings: The structure and chassis are sound and free from corrosion. Photos are available on request.

From the second half of the 1960s onwards, Citroën's design department set about designing a "super DS", combining the hydropneumatic suspension of the famous saloon with a state-of-the-art powertrain. Citroën's next move was across the Alps, when it bought Maserati in 1968.The brand's chief engineer, Giulio Alfieri, designed a 90-degree open V6, developing 170 hp for a displacement of 2.7 liters in its first version. This was the model that powered the SM (the "S" referring to the DS and the "M" to Maserati), unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show.True to the Chevrons' avant-garde approach, the long, sculptural bodywork, designed under the direction of Robert Opron, houses technical solutions such as the servo-assisted return steering, which were to be the talk of the town. An authentic GT, the SM offers today's collectors a unique combination of six-cylinder nobility and exceptional roadholding!
