History
The DS 20 Pallas is a top-of-the-range version of the legendary Citroën DS, introduced in the 1960s. The 'Pallas' finish was launched in 1964 to offer a higher level of luxury and refinement. The DS 20 itself succeeded the DS 19 in 1969, benefiting from an increase in engine capacity to 1985cc and increased power. It was distinguished by improved standard equipment, including enhanced instrumentation and improved interior trim. Its four-cylinder engine developed around 91 bhp DIN at the time of its launch, and could be combined with either a manual gearbox or the famous semi-automatic hydraulic gearbox. A major restyling of the DS in 1967, applied to the Pallas, introduced a front end with streamlined, directional headlamps (which swivelled with the wheels), greatly improving safety. The DS 20 Pallas thus combined the revolutionary styling of the DS, its exceptional hydropneumatic suspension, and a 'nec plus ultra' level of comfort, making it a highly sought-after tourer right up to the end of its production run in 1975.
