History
The Lotus Esprit Turbo HCi Commemorative Edition is a highly sought-after limited edition, of which only 88 were produced in 1988 to mark Lotus’s 40th anniversary. Based on the new X180 generation designed by Peter Stevens, it is powered by the famous 2.2-litre turbocharged fuel-injected engine producing around 215 bhp. Today, it ranks among the most exclusive and collectable versions in the Esprit line-up.
🇺🇸 This Lotus is number 59 of the 88 produced. It was delivered new in 1988 in Alabama.
🇨🇦 Our client purchased it in Canada in 2020 whilst living there.
🇫🇷 He then imported it into France in 2021. The car is registered as a classic vehicle.
📄 The car comes with its rare original documentation: the original owner’s manual, the official Lotus service booklet and a comprehensive spare parts guide (PDF version). A file of invoices totalling over €10,000 for recent maintenance and a clean CARFAX report trace its history.

🚘 This Esprit is in superb condition, both aesthetically and mechanically. It successfully took part in the Club Lotus France rally in September 2025, covering 1,500 km without a single incident.
The bodywork is sound and the alignment is good. The ‘Pearlescent White’ paintwork is smooth and even. The front bumper was repainted in July 2025, giving it a perfect finish.
The interior, entirely original, is particularly well preserved, complete with its numbered plaque on the dashboard. The instrumentation is fully functional, with the exception of the CD player and the fuel gauge, which remains static at half-tank (known issues with this model).
🔧 The car is in perfect working order and offers superb handling.
The mechanics have been rigorously maintained by official specialists (Bauden Racing Cars (official Lotus distributor), Jean Lain Heritage). It has, in fact, just been serviced and will require no further expenditure from the buyer.
The car is fitted with a bespoke exhaust (original catalytic converter supplied). The underbody has been inspected on a lift: the chassis is sound; photos are available in the gallery.
