History
The Pagoda was launched in 1963. It succeeded the 300 SL and the 190 SL. Its rigid, pagoda-shaped roof gave it its nickname. Available as the 230 SL, 250 SL and later the 280 SL, it made its mark on the history of Mercedes roadsters thanks to its balance between comfort and sportiness. The 280 SL, launched in 1968, was fitted with the most powerful 2.8-litre engine in the range.
This particular car was first registered in the United States on 15 September 1969, in California. It was purchased by the current owner in 2018 and imported by a Belgian Pagode specialist well-known in the market. The car was registered under the ‘CG collection’ scheme in France the following year.

This Pagode is in good overall condition.
The bodywork looks good, with good panel alignment. The paintwork is smooth and even. We note a few signs of wear, consistent with the car’s age. The black soft top was replaced in 2024 and is in mint condition. The car comes with its hardtop.
Inside, the beige leather upholstery is very well preserved. The dials and instruments are in working order.
The 6-cylinder engine starts without hesitation and delivers plenty of torque. It has just undergone a full service carried out in July 2025 (engine oil change, new spark plugs, fitting of an electronic ignition system (original ignition coil retained), gearbox oil change). The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly. The four shock absorbers were replaced in 2019.
