History
Unveiled in 1955 at the New York Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL captured the essence of the luxury roadster in a more accessible form than its big sister, the 300 SL. With its elegant Mercedes-Benz styling and refined four-cylinder engine, it has become a benchmark amongst classic German convertibles from the 1950s and 1960s.
The current owner has owned this 190 SL for over 20 years and was already acquainted with its previous owner, who had kept it for 30 years: the car’s history is therefore documented over a period of 50 years.
The file of invoices dates back to 1990 and attests to meticulous maintenance. A valuation carried out in 2024 by Classic Expert put its value at €128,000.

General state
This Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is in very good overall condition.
🚘 The bodywork is well aligned and the paintwork, which was repainted in 2008, is smooth and even. The chrome fittings (bumpers, star-shaped wheel trims, door handles) are in good condition. The ivory-coloured soft top looks excellent. The owner also has the hardtop, which has been restored and used very rarely. The appropriate mounting bracket is supplied.
The interior is upholstered in black leather, with a dashboard painted to match the bodywork, an original clock and a period car radio. The seat cushions are in excellent condition, whilst the seat backs show a patina consistent with the car’s age. Retractable seatbelts have been fitted, and the instrument cluster is in working order.
⚙️ The car is currently in very good working order. Previous owners have always taken good care of it. The following work is particularly worth noting:
Between 1985 and 1990: Complete overhaul of the engine (block, cylinder head), brakes, shock absorbers and gearbox;
September 2007: Restoration of the suspension and steering;
April 2010: Gearbox seals, silent blocks;
June 2013: Water pump refurbished;
May 2017: Cylinder head replaced (the current cylinder head is compatible with unleaded petrol), steering box refurbished;
March 2019 at 53,500 kilometres – Servicing of Weber carburettors, replacement of the complete clutch assembly, complete overhaul of the rear axle and rear suspension (epoxy coating), replacement of all four shock absorbers, overhaul of the braking system;
September 2021 – Cylinder head gasket, thermostats;
July 2026 – Refurbishment of the ATE Hydrovac brake booster.
The underbody is sound; it was treated to the highest standards in 2008.
🛞 Tyre production date (DOT): 2010.
