History
Launched in October 1963, the MKIII BJ8 represents the final evolution of the ‘Big Healey’ line, transforming the rustic early roadster into a true luxury grand tourer. This version stands out for its refined interior, featuring for the first time a burl walnut dashboard, rising windows and a much more practical hinged soft top. Under the bonnet, its 3-litre six-cylinder engine was tuned to 150 bhp, delivering cutting-edge performance that cemented its legendary status both on the road and in rallying. In 1964, the ‘Phase 2’ update brought major technical improvements, notably a modified chassis to increase ground clearance and a redesigned rear suspension. Production finally ceased at the end of 1967.
The current owner has owned the car since 2017.

This example is in very good condition.
The bodywork was restored in 2019; the work was documented with supporting invoices, at a cost of €17,000. The necessary panel work was carried out, as was the repainting. The alignment and fit are good. The green paintwork is smooth and has a lovely sheen. The wheel rims are well preserved. The chrome trim has a lovely shine.
Inside the cabin, the black seats look quite good. A few stitches on the driver’s seat would need redoing. The varnish on the burl walnut inlays shows no cracks. The black Bakelite steering wheel is very well preserved. The dashboard instruments are in working order.
The owner has decided not to open the engine as it runs very smoothly, is responsive and has a melodious sound. A thorough service was carried out at the end of 2024, during which the gearbox mounts were replaced. The tyres date from 2009 and need replacing.
