This Mercedes-Benz 280 S was purchased from Pierre Gosselin, a car enthusiast, former president of Formula E and a member of the Automobile Club de Monaco. It subsequently underwent a complete restoration carried out in Olivier De Stefano’s workshops, at a cost of approximately €30,000, with supporting invoices available to view in the “Documents” section. The engine was rebuilt using a new Mercedes-Benz block. The upholstery, carpets and stainless steel exhaust have also been refurbished. The car is now in a remarkable condition.
This 280 S is now in near-show-car condition, with a standard of finish and presentation rarely seen on a W108.
The independent expert report confirms the structural integrity and overall condition of the car. According to the valuation report dated 9 April 2024, drawn up by Stéphane Bonoron, a court-appointed expert at the Paris Court of Appeal, the bodywork is described as ‘sound’, with high-quality repaintwork that is very well preserved. No visible signs of corrosion, impact or accident damage were found. The chrome trim is in very good original condition.
The interior is in excellent overall condition, largely true to the original and partially and carefully restored, particularly the leather upholstery. The whole presents a cohesive and well-maintained appearance, true to the spirit of the model. The trim and woodwork remain in fine condition. The only point worth noting is slight wear to the carpet on the driver’s side, which does not affect the overall quality of the finish.
The engine runs very smoothly, with no unusual noises and oil pressure within the correct range. The recently fitted stainless steel exhaust produces a wonderful sound. The engine block has recently undergone a complete restoration using a new stock engine, adapted for unleaded fuel. The ignition and carburetion are correctly adjusted, the brake assist is effective, and the mechanical components are in good condition and consistent with the vehicle’s overall presentation.
Tyres: The tyres are from 2021 and are in very good condition.
